Doing it the GalWAY

Galway: hippy, trendy, Fishy, delicious, drinks! drinks! drinks! clubs!

the fashion here is very new - I don’t fit in at all considering I’m living out of my back pack, or i fit in more than I know because I’m living out of my back pack - but I love it! Went to a club that I was told about by a local guy called Rosen Dubh (black rose) where there was an awesome DJ accompanied by a drummer and a mosh pit. Drank cider all night long and danced off its affects. Late night food is chips (French fries) with toppings like taco chips: sour cream, meat sauce, hot sauce and cheese.

Pubs have proven good for a conversation, beer and music. Drinking starts very early on a Saturday and ends just as abruptly as it starts.

We woke up today (Sunday) and went on a tour with a couple other people to Conamara and saw the Kyle more Abbey (a castle with a romantic history and beautiful gardens) you know you are in Ireland when your tour guide stops the bus for a Guinness and an Irish coffee.

Friday we hiked 10 miles to Barna along a path we found by the sea and than took a bus back into town. Saturday we just bummed around town and went to the pubs/clubs! Everyone is soo nice and friendly.

Sheep everywhere! We saw a lamb being born today and ate a turkey sandwich with butter… my poor tummy.

My new roommates in the hostel are from Germany and are named Sebastian aned Toby - they love to play rummy and drink wine so that’s what we have been doing this afternoon. They also love Nine Inch Nails, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Dr.Pepper - all of which make us really cool being American and all (hmm).

Irish Tid Bits learned:

SPOT ON! (said all the time - kinda like “awesome” is in NY)

uisce beatha (pronounced ish ka bah) is the water of life - or whiskey!

Met a mountain man of Ireland in a pub, who didn’t speak a language .. at ALL!! so cool.

No open container laws - when we asked a guy he told us that if we start to be ridiculous the guarda (cops) might take your drink form you.

Swans walk right up to you

Quay is pronounced key

red bull & vodka is very popular right now in the bars

if you order a cocktail, (like rum and coke for example) they give you a glass of rum and bottle of coke.

there are hair straightner for the girls in the pub bathrooms so you can straighten your hair after walking through the rain to get to the pub for two euro

10 years ago you had a 1 in 20 chance of getting blown up by a bomb on your way from Dublin to Belfast (grrreat)

the Irish version of moon shine is potent!

Ive seen three of these dogs on the street so far!! I <3 them they are so friendly!
