jet jiggity lag
Landed in Dublin Tuesday morning 9am - which would be around 4am NY time. In an effort to try and fight off jet lag we drank lots of Tea in our ‘budget accommodation’ room and than went for a walk to the Guinness factory. We had 1 Guinness, strolled around, found a bight to eat and than couldn’t stay up any longer so we went to bed at 6pm. Needless to say we were sitting up with the lights on looking at maps and eating Mangos at 3am. We were very excited to start the day bright and early (at 730am) so we headed downstairs to breakfast at 730am. We walked allllllll around Dublin; saw Trinity College, the book of Kels, the art and history museums and the Jameson factory. It was rainy and kind of cold and miserable all day but that really didn’t matter.
little tidbits:
trash bins are called Litter.
‘shock’ advertising is used every where: I saw a bus that said on the side, simply “i Shagged your dad”… no idea why!
guys refer to girls as Mary (no matter what their name might really be)
busses and cars drive right up to the curb VERY fast so don’t walk on the edge of the side walk
delicious Jameson drink: two spoonfuls brown sugar, shot of Jameson, hot coffee —stir—pour cold cream over a spoon on to the top of the coffee… cures any cold wet spirit.
We went to a little pub to have a drink and some food and little to our knowing there was a major football (soccer) game on. We sat down in the corner and in seconds were surrounded by fans of all ages yelling and talking so fast that we had to make a stealthy escape an hour or so later to another pub without TVs for some grub. I had patato skins that tasted more like pizza than potato skins since they were soaked in maranara sauce covered in mozzarella cheese. Than we walked back to our B&B where I slept for maybe an hour or two than was awake for three than back to sleep for an hour.
This morning we grabbed a bus from Dublin to Galway for 15 euro it took 4 hours. Galway seems like a really neat town and I am excited to explore it tomorrow. We had Guinness with fish and chips for dinner, delicious!
I like hanging out in the common room at the hostel. I met a girl from New Zealand, London, Michigan and two guys from china. Seems like mostly girls that stay in at night and watch TV. We watched FRIENDS tonight, which was funnier than usual because it was the episode in which Ross tries to play Rugby. A girl name Alexandra from New Zealand bought a 12 pack of Bulmer’s vintage cider and is sharing it with everyone!
